A quick look at the mobile app/PWA
On the front page of CharSnap, you'll find the install link for the mobile PWA app. You can only install it on a mobile device; it will not function on PC.
Installation
Upon opening CharSnap in your browser, you'll be greeted with a banner suggesting you download the app. By pressing "Install the App" from the banner on mobile, it will take you to the mobile landing page, showing you an "Install CharSnap" button. This will automatically install the app on both iOS and Android. You cannot download the app/PWA on PC.
If you visit this page again after installing the app, it'll look different than before. If, for some reason, you need to reinstall the app, you can follow the instructions onscreen.
For Chrome:
Tap the triple dot menu in the top right corner of Chrome
Choose Add to Home screen, then Install.
Confirm — CharSnap hooks into that step and installs extra fancy app goodness via that action, and it appears on your homescreen after a few seconds! This is how we get around the dumb App Store restrictions.
For iPhone and iPad:
Tap the Share button on Safari's bottom toolbar
Scroll down and choose Add to Home Screen
Tap Add — CharSnap appears on your homescreen
Differences in Navigating the App
While most things are largely the same between the app and PC, there are a few little quirks you should know about.
Refreshing the App
If you press the top bar of the app, a little "Refresh" button will pop up. This works on any page EXCEPT chat pages.
For chat pages, you'll find the "Refresh" button in the Character Settings menu where you tap the character name on the top left.
You can also open the sidebar — there's a "Refresh" button there as well, towards the bottom.
Finding Character Settings Within a Chat
To locate the sidebar/character settings within a chat, all you have to do is click the character's name up in the top left corner specifically. It will bring up a menu with all the sidebar options such as Configure Responses, Recollections, AASP, etc.
Persona List
When accessing your Personas, you can find the list of them in the top left corner — the icon of four boxes.
Everything Else
Generally speaking, everything else is fairly self-explanatory and is comparable to the PC website.
What is a PWA?
A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a type of application delivered through the web, built using common web technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It is intended to work on any platform that uses a standards-compliant browser, including both desktop and mobile devices.
While CharSnap works fine in your mobile browser, installing the PWA removes the browser interface for a cleaner, app-like experience. You'll get a home screen icon, fullscreen chat windows, and faster load times on repeat visits.
